OUR CLUB

Club History

Hurricane was established in 2009 as a small Dragon Boat club in East Fremantle. The club's initial goal was to compete at a high level both nationally and internationally. After several successful tours, Hurricane discovered a passion for Outrigger Canoeing, which began as cross-training but evolved into a new journey for the club.

Our history is rich and there's a lot to learn about us. For more information, visit our Early Years & Timeline section.

Over the years, Hurricane has achieved numerous goals, striking a balance between social paddling and maintaining camaraderie and competitiveness.
As one of the leading clubs in WA, our members take part in paddling events across the state, the country, and even overseas.

MARATHON CHAMPIONS

2024 was an exciting year for Hurricane Paddling Crew. The amount of time, effort and sacrifice both on and off the water certainly paid off at the 2024 AOCRA National Marathon Titles. In particular, a fantastic achievement is having the top 3 Open Women paddlers in the country all from Hurricane Paddling Crew!!!!
Our juniors have also had a fantastic season and a few also competed at this year’s Nationals and had great success.

Mo'i Canoe Blessing

The word Mo’i means King, Monarch, or Sovereign. With the Sultan of Johor becoming the King this year, and our new sponsor, we wanted to use this name in recognition and respect to him.

Apart from being a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the outdoors in a way that’s different from most (i.e., on the water), Hurricane Paddling Crew is a fantastic local club to be part of. Whether you’re just looking to try it out, visiting, or a pro paddler wanting to take your skills to the next level.

We are an inclusive club that values family and community. You don’t have to be the fittest or the fastest or have years of experience – if you love the outdoors, enjoy being on the water, and appreciate the camaraderie of being part of a team or club environment, working together towards a common goal, then paddling with us is the perfect choice.

Hurricane Paddling Crew welcomes new, visiting, and experienced paddlers. If you’d like to find out more or get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
