About us
Hurricane Outrigger Canoe Club - A Force of Nature
Over the past 15 years, we have grown into one of Western Australia’s largest and strongest clubs, as well as a leading contender on the National stage. We are proud to have secured 2nd place at both the 2024 and 2025 AOCRA National Marathon Titles and remain committed to chasing State and National medals.

Our Clubhouse
Our clubhouse is proudly supported by the Town of East Fremantle and is the heart of our club; home to our training sessions, competitions, fundraisers, and plenty of good times (including our famous Thursday night BBQs!)
We’re lucky to have a fully equipped gym, bathrooms, and showers, but what really makes it special is the team effort that goes into keeping it running. From stocking the fridge to cleaning the space, everyone pitches in to keep our club a place we can all be proud of.

Our Craft
Our fleet includes a mix of heavy and lightweight OC6 canoes, plus OC1, OC2, OC3 and V1s, giving members plenty of options to train in and enjoy. These are available during training sessions, and can also be booked for personal use.
We’re always working hard to fundraise for new equipment so everyone gets the benefit of training in a wide variety of canoes.
Club storage is also available (subject to space) for an additional annual fee, with more than 50 personal OC1s currently stored at the club!
Our Members
We value family, community, and competition, and it shows in our 70+ strong (and growing!) membership. From social paddlers to national champions, juniors to seniors, we welcome people of all ages and every stage of their paddling journey.
Our membership is proudly balanced with equal numbers of male and female paddlers, with juniors making up around 5% and our para-canoe athletes another 5%.
We’re especially proud of our para-canoe program, launched in February, 2025, and spearheaded by Tori Vidler. In just a few short months, our para paddlers and their families have been nothing short of incredible; determined, eager, and fully committed. Thanks to their dedication, the support of our community, and our comprehensive development program, we’re already seeing fantastic results both on and off the water.

AOCRA
Hurricane OCC is a member of the Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association (AOCRA). Several Hurricane members sit on the AOCRA committee in Western Australia (WAZA), and Hurricane hosts AOCRA events throughout the race season. We also compete in national events and help to develop junior talent with AOCRA’s support.
AOCRA requires that all members of outrigger clubs across Australia are members of AOCRA. For more information, visit https://aocra.com.au/
